Meet Valerie
With 17 years in the coaching industry, Valerie Priester has built her practice around a simple truth: success begins with mindset. As a mindset and strategy catalyst, she helps high-achieving women entrepreneurs who’ve already created some success—but feel stuck in self-doubt, fear, or procrastination—move forward with bold, aligned strategies that feel authentic rather than forced.
In a recent conversation with Dr Steve Jeffs and Erwin de Grave, Valerie shared how she entered coaching, why mindset sits at the heart of her work, and the tools she uses to help clients create lasting change.
From Colleague to Coach
Valerie’s coaching journey began in the corporate world when five coworkers asked how she stayed so positive and centered through life’s challenges. They even nicknamed her the “flowers and berries lady.” She started informally helping each of them—on goals ranging from starting a business to navigating marriage and ministry—and watched their lives change.
Encouraged by their results, she researched coaching and chose a path that matched her values: she started as a Christian life coach. Over time, more women came to her for help starting or growing a business. Although she initially resisted the “business coach” label, a pivotal challenge from her own coach helped her realise she could combine business with mindset and still serve deeply.
Why Mindset Comes First
For Valerie, every program begins with core questions: What do you believe? What do you believe is possible for you? She’s seen again and again that fear, self-doubt and old beliefs drive procrastination. When clients address the inner narrative, strategy becomes easier—and action becomes natural.
Aligned Strategies Create Action
Valerie teaches there are many ways to market and grow—but alignment is what keeps you consistent. If a tactic isn’t authentic, it becomes a chore, and we avoid it. When strategy aligns with who you are, you show up more confidently and follow through.
Lessons on Value and Worth
Valerie openly shares that she once charged $25/hour, believing she couldn’t ask for more. Her perspective shifted when she recognised that clients aren’t paying for an hour—they’re investing in transformation: the confidence to start a business, the freedom to move from feeling trapped to creating impact. Now she helps clients match their fees to the value of results—not just time.
Tools and Practices That Spark Change
- Wheel of Life – Valerie loves how it reveals where clients have a “wobble” so they can name it and improve it.
- Journaling – Honest conversations with self; she often suggests writing to your younger self (e.g., your 20- or 30-year-old self).
- Meditation & Slowing Down – Especially for high-achieving women, pausing to recognise accomplishments before rushing to the next goal is essential.
- Books that inspire – The Four Agreements is a longtime favorite; one big takeaway for Valerie is accepting people as they are. (She also mentions Atomic Habits.)
In Conclusion: Mindset + Strategy = Transformation
Coaching, for Valerie, doesn’t feel like work—it feels like service. Whether she’s helping a woman step into entrepreneurship, reframe limiting beliefs, or slow down long enough to celebrate wins, Valerie’s mission remains the same: trust yourself, align your strategy, and move boldly.
